The Chronicle

Team Members

2016.11.1

The members of Dingpu Elementary School were 3 teachers and 6 students.  The teachers' specialties were computer, curriculum and art.  Besides, the pupils are capable of writing, drawing, interviewing and using computer as well.  Our goal was to promote the beauty of Dingpu to all students of our school.

The platform used in this project was Google Classroom for its convenience of communicating and uploading.

The First Mission

2016.11.9

Our first mission was to introduce the characteristics of Dingpu via internet and to interview the local people.  Happy to join this team, I believed that I could learn a lot from the project.

Our Team Name and Topic

2016.11.11

We decided that the topic was Dingpu MRT Station in our second meeting because it was next to our school.  Besides, we could collect a lot of information related to this topic.

Next, we discussed our team name.  Each of us was so creative that we got many interesting names, such as "Top Smart," "Dingpu Super Cool," and "Dingpu No.1."  Finally, we adopted "Top No.1",because we wanted to be the first and best.  Other than that, Dingpu will also be the first MRT station of Sanyin (LB) Line in the future.  Our team name combined the meaning of being the first and best one, which aimed to introduce the best part of Dingpu in this project.

Brainstorming

2016.11.14

Since the topic was confirmed, we started to discuss the content of our mind map, which included research method, introduction of Dingpu MRT Station, Family Route, Food Route, Culture Route, student's reflection and promotion of Dingpu. We were quiet excited about these parts and looked forward to the outcome of our mind maps.  We hoped to learn more through participating in the Cyberfair and were proud of being a member of this project.

Concepts on Mind Maps

2016.11.17

Six parts of the project were derived from last meeting. We were about to discuss the sub items this time. For the Family Route, Tucheng Family Library Branch, Time Arts Pavilion and Nougat Creativity Museum were highly recommended. For the Culture Route, Yongfu Temple, Daan Waterway, Puan Temple and Shanxi Temple were suggested. As for the Gourmet Route, Ting-Wei provided many nice places such as Xiang Hao Taiwanese Chicken Leg Bento, Dingfu Sichuan Cuisine Restaurant, red thin noodles and the Yang's Pan-Fried Dumpling. It sounds so delicious and we were all mouthwatering about it.

Grouping

2016.11.21

We were divided into 3 groups. Rui-En and I were in the Family Route group. Yong-Jie and Yong-Ping were in the Culture Route group, and Ren-Jun and Ting-Wei  were in the Gourmet Route Group.

Arranging the Time for the Map Drawing

2016.11.28

We planned to draw the Guide Map of Dingpu Area during our early study time every Thursday morning and Tuesday and Wednesday mornings if necessary.

The First Visit

2016.11.30

We started our trip by eating the delicious black vinegar noodles and then we went to Yongfu Temple and interviewed Mr. Deng,Jin-Tsai , who knew the history of the temple very well. Next, we visited Tucheng Family Library Branch and made an appointment with the Branch Director for the interview.

Yongfu Temple Visit

2016.12.5

One Wednesday afternoon, we went to Yongfu Temple and interviewed Mr. Deng. I thought it would be very serious but it turned out we had very humorous conversation. For the first time, I had learned so much about the history of the temple. After the interview, Mr. Deng showed us around and we noticed that this temple is much more colorful and the sign of "Qingshui Master" is more obvious than it was. The dragon columns of the temple were so vivid and the caisson ceilings above were breathtaking and stunning, too.

The Second Visit

2016.12.7

We visited Tong Blossom Park and had mountain delicacy for lunch. Next we paid our respect in Shanxi Temple and prayed for good performance in the Cyberfair competition. Luckily, the weather was fine and we took some nice video, everything was going smoothly.

Field Trip

2016.12.7

We saw a very long trail when arriving the Tong Blossom Park. We were not interested in the long walk, so we went through the short suspension bridge. It was quite scary though it' s just 50 meters long.

Finished Mind Map

2016.12.12

We worked on the mind map again. Each team member had different topic. One was in charge of the whole mind map, the other 4 people worked on the research methods. According to different tasks, we had various production.

Drawing the Tour Map

2016.12.14

Since we had to finish the Tour Map by the end of December, the map drawing team stayed to finish it. They found the icons of the places by internet searching, and color them.

Today's Visit

2016.12.21

We had an appointment with Director Chen of Tucheng Family Library Branch this afternoon. We were very happy to have one more chance to visit Tucheng Family Library Branch again and understood more about the changes after Dingpu MRT Station was open to traffic. Besides, we were going to visit the Food Route today.

The Introduction of the Routes

2016.12.26

We were very excited about finishing the introduction of the Gourmet Route, Culture Route, Family Route and Dingpu MRT Station. We had already worked very hard to obtain numerous information by searching on the internet and visiting the places personally. It was a very good opportunity to show how hard we'd been working.

Obtaining the Information

2016.12.27

Mr. Tu provided us with some books about Dingpu. The books were "Goddess of Mercy Protects Matsutien", "The Old Customs of Baijiebao- The Tucheng Images of the Centry," "Century Style- Tucheng Art" and "The Natural Ecology of Dingshing Community, Tucheng." We had a better understanding of the history of the Culture Route attractions and found many precious photos to enrich our website.

The Busy Itinerary

2017.1.4

We had a busy itinerary today. First, we tasted the local delicacy in Hai Gang Goose and took a walk to Dingpu MRT Station. We were going to learn about the process of its development in the past and future more deeply. We visited ATOP Time Arts Pavilion to interview the Chairman of the board, who used to be the Parent President of Dingpu Elementary School and was very friendly to our school. We also experienced the DIY activity which was so much fun. Oh, what a busy and fulfilling afternoon.

Off-Campus Promotion Activity:Marvelous Dingpu Leaflet

2017.1.12

How could we promote the project result to other people outside our school? How about making the leaflets and putting them in the Dingpu MRT Station for the visitors to refer to? We summarized the introduction of each attraction and made the leaflets with computer. Hopefully, the Dingpu MRT Station master would let us place the leaflets in the station. We planned to make 1000 copies so that the passengers could grasp the information of Dingpu attractions immediately by this guide map.

Principal Hwa Joined the Promoton Activities

2017.1.16

After completing of the leaflet, we sent a sample to Principal Hwa and applied for the budget for 1000 copies. We also needed the approval of Metro Taipei for placing the leaflets in the Dingpu Station.

Principal Hwa was very supportive of our project. He had a meeting with us about the content of the leaflet and its relationship with the Cyberfair. He believed that students should step out of the campus and integrate what you learned at school into your life. Then he made 2 decisions. First, 1,000 copies won't be enough, for the long term promotion, we would need 10,000 copies. He would bring our team to introduce the leaflet and help for the fundraising from the companies and shops nearby. Second, we'll print a bilingual version for foreign visitors.

At this point, Principal Hwa joined our team and we had a greater challenge and a closer connection with the inhabitants.

Fundraising for the Leaflet

2017.1.17

We plan to apply for long-term display of our leafletss designed in Dingpu MRT Station so that the tourists will acquaint with the tourism resources of Dingpu for the hipsters, family and food. This idea was not only a spotlight of the competition but also the extension of our work in the implementation of promoting Dingpu.

Since the targeted copies of printing is 10,000 copies and we will need to raise a fund of NT50,000. The fundraising campaign becomes the spotlight today. After the closing ceremony and in our first meeting at the start of winter vacation, we were exciting and nervous in the library at noon because we have never participated in fundraising.

We were eating the Chinese cabbage dumpling the teacher bought us and our worries. We wondered if there was a "fundraising speech draft" and worried that we could forget our lines. We didn't want to look absent-minded and what kind of tone and expression should I use? At this time, I had cold sweat even though I was eating the  hot dumpling.

We were also fully prepared before leaving. The teacher gave us several copies of the agreement and the Dingpu leafletss designed by us with many efforts. We were puzzled when we saw the agreement and then the teacher explained to us the purpose of the agreement, which was intended to show the intention of the undersigned to sponsor us the amount. The fundraising speech explained things such as our participation in national competition, leaflets design and printing, and the amount of sponsorship needed. We learned another lesson from preparing the professional information for fundraising. After dividing groups and discussing the content, we then headed to our destination.

First, we went to ATOP Time Arts Pavilion while the principal and Director of Academic Affairs also came to support us. After we got inside, the director of ATOP Time Arts Pavilion greeted us with hospitality again. Cheng-Chen and I started "giving the fundraising speech without lip synch." We did not speak very smoothly because after all it was our first time. However generous director not only understood our purpose but also agreed to sponsor us with NT10,000. I couldn't believe my eyes when I heard the amount. Really? We raised 20% of the fund we need on our first try and I nearly forgot to thank him. The director sponsored us with fund and efforts. He also enthusiastically recommended us a printing factory with cheaper printing costs. What a great success.

Later, we went to Yongfu Temple, Hai Gang Goose and the Industrial Zone Black Vinegar Noodles. We raised NT20,000 from Yongfu Temple. We were still a little shy even though we were touched and at one point in time, the atmosphere was kind of awkward. I broke the awkward atmosphere by saying: "Lin,Cheng-Chen, didn't you say that the chairman was handsome?" We all laughed and Cheng-Chen defined it in embarrassment.

We also raised NT1,000 and NT5,000 from Hai Gang Goose and the Industrial Zone Black Vinegar Noodles respectively. It is not easy for those businesses to make money but they still sponsored us, so we again experience the enthusiasm of Dingpu. The principal also raised the personal donation of NT5,000 from Dingpu Non-Profit Organization Chairman as well as the NT1,000 from school teacher Lin,Zhong-Bin , we have raised a total of NT40,000 in total.

The new experience, fundraising, is different from the past Cyberfair activities because the idea behind it is the promotion of Dingpu. The principal, Director of Academic Affairs and the advisor took us around and so we could take one step close toward our goal. We may be a little inexperienced but we are pure and sincere. This was really an unforgettable experience for us.

Making the Website

2017.1.18

We had a meeting with the teachers today. First, we discussed the fundraising for the leaflet this Thursday and the Nougat Creativity Museum visit this Friday. In addition to our on-campus promotion activities like "The Voice of Dingpu" and " Dingpu Monopoly", we would also like to place the leaflets in Dingpu MRT Station for foreign visitors. For a long term promotion, we planned to print 10,000 copies of the leaflet and we really needed the support of the nearby companies and shops. We went for the fundraising this Thursday afternoon. My mom always wanted me to have this opportunity and I never expected to experience it in my elementary school days. This was great!

Second, we finished the preparation for conducting the website. It was time to realize it. To make webpages, we needed to collect then sort the information, put the data into the tables, add pictures and photos and then designed the web. As time went by, we finished our website step by step. The last piece of the puzzle was to design our website. The teachers suggested that we use the network resources to improve the quality of our website and save our time. So we downloaded the website version, modified the title, content, pictures, and did the web design. We all learned so much during the production process.

Approaching the Finish Line

2017.1.19

It was our last gathering before winter vacation. Thinking of Cyberfair was about to end, I couldn't help but feeling sad. When the teachers estimated that the website would be completed on Feb. 10th, we all had mixed feelings. On one hand, we were so proud of our project result, on the other hand, the experience of the cooperation process was unforgettable. We knew that everything would come to an end, but we would never forget the hard working with the teachers and other team members.

How I wished there would have been a new start awaiting me when the end was drawing near!

The Completion of the Bilingual Leaflets

2017.1.20

With the assistance from the English teachers, we finished the bilingual leaflets yesterday. It was hard to translate because these place names were also proper nouns. Therefore, the teachers consulted MRT Dingpu Station about the place names which had been already officially translated. If no further information was attained, the Wikipedia would be the best translation resource.

Dingpu Elementary school is a bilingual experimental school. There are two foreign teachers at our school. Teacher Mark and Helen helped a lot in correcting the draft. We hope that the foreign visitors can use these leaflets.

Making the Website-Website Module and Home Page Design

2017.1.23

We chose the photo website module as our website main-structure. Every photo from interviews, visits and hand drawings was an entry to the subpage. That's our Top No. 1 style.

Making the Website-Finishing the first layer of the website

2017.1.26

After selecting the website module and finishing the homepage, we started to arrange the information of the first layer of our website. It was like a guideline introducing the general content. By the skill of abstract retrieving learned in our Chinese and reading courses, we made a summary from the information we collected and the articles we wrote. In the second layer of the website, we put the experience of the visit, the content of the visit, and the information collected from the books and on the Internet.

The Second Layer of the website-Ready to Start and Promotion Activities

2017.2.2

There were four subpages in Entering the Website Page. In the first subpage, we explained the website map. In the second subpage, we explained the research methods. The third subpage was about the progress report. The forth subpage were the reflections.

There were also four subpages in Promotion Activities Page. We introduced the Dingpu Broadcast-the Voice of Dingpu, Dingpu Monopoly, the bilingual leaflets and the fundraising. The last part was the Field Research Uploading Page, which was also the winter vacation assignment for all Dingpu Elementary students.

The Second Layer of the website-Dingpu Station, Culture Route, Family Route and Gourmet Route.

2017.2.8

We introduced the past and future of MRT Dingpu Station. We also put the visit record as a guide of the station. You can also find the teaching activities of introducing MRT Dingpu Station and the interview with the Deputy Stationmaster.

We planned three routes for you to understand more about Dingpu Culture Route, Family Route and Gourmet Route. Please browse our website and experience of visiting those interesting places.

The Second Layer of the website-Dingtube Video Box

2017.2.10

We made an introduction video from our interview video clips. The original video was too long, so we cut it into 55 seconds. We also added a copyright free soundtrack from Youtube. In addition to this, we thanked Jane, an enthusiastic student's parent, who kindly instructed us the video playing interface.
